Easy Does It, Inc. (“EDI”) is a 501 © (3) non-profit organization founded in 1989 as a place where people could meet to reclaim their lives from the bondage of substance use disorder. For the past 30 years, EDI has been dedicated to improving the quality of life of individuals recovering from the effects of substance use disorder, thus contributing to the betterment of the community and society as a whole. Our name “Easy Does It” was adopted from a slogan used by the 12-step recovery program, Alcoholics Anonymous, to describe a gradual yet steady path through recovery from substance use disorder.
The original Easy Does It Clubhouse, located at 647 Walnut Street in downtown Reading opened in 1989. Easy Does It, Inc. expanded and opened a 32,000 square foot facility located in rural Bern Township in Leesport. Opening in 2001, the Leesport facility hosts a 50 bed Supportive Housing Program, space for recovery meetings, educational classrooms, and a large social hall for drug & alcohol free events.
Easy Does It takes a comprehensive approach to treating substance use disorder by aligning supportive services along the entire recovery continuum. Substance use disorder is recognized as a chronic condition and recovery is addressed as a long-term process. Like other chronic diseases, substance use disorder can be arrested with proper prevention, treatment, and sustained recovery efforts. By providing supportive services with both depth and breadth, EDI helps to effectively reduce the costly toll of substance use disorder on individuals, families, and society. Services targeted along a recovery-needs hierarchy delivering stabilization support, recovery process development, life-skills expansion complemented by broad based social supports including informational, emotional, relational, and instrumental groundwork to help build a solid foundation of recovery.
Due to our many years of practical expertise and grassroots involvement in recovery, EDI is uniquely suited to be the leading community resource and gateway to a lifetime of recovery from substance use disorder. We are able to break down and transcend barriers between and among treatment providers, social support agencies, different recovery groups, and the broader community. EDI cooperates and collaborates with all these entities without direct affiliation.
Making a difference since 1989!
